Mark Nicklas is the Head of Unit “Industrial Strategy and Value Chains” in the European Commission’s DG Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs (DG GROW). His unit plays a leading role for the development and implementation of the EU industrial strategy. The objective is to facilitate the green and digital transformation with a globally competitive EU industry, driven by innovation. In particular, his unit is managing the EU Industry Days and the Strategic Forum on Important Projects of Common European Interest and has managed the Industry 2030 roundtable. From 2012 to 2016, he was Deputy Head of Unit Innovation Policy for Growth. Before that, he was closely involved in the European enterprise and industry policy as the Assistant to the European SME Envoy and Director-General for Enterprise and Industry. Previously, he spent several years in the European Commission’s transport policy department. Prior to joining the European Commission in 2003, he held various posts in the telecommunications industry in Germany. Mark holds a Ph.D. in economics.
