Dr. Veronica Broomes

Dr. Veronica Broomes

Dr Veronica Broomes spent her early career in Guyana's agriculture research system where more than 25 years ago she established and managed the national plant tissue culture facility. Veronica was responsible also for finalising Guyana's national strategy on biodiversity, leading teams conducting environmental and social impact assessments and facilitating stakeholder consultations during preparation of the Area Development strategy for Indigenous Peoples' communities in Guyana.

Over the past 10 years, Veronica has developed expertise and specialist knowledge in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) with a focus on strategic CSR (beyond philanthropy), strengthening local content in supply chains of companies operating across multiple jurisdictions and the application of CSR as a catalyst to achieve national and local development priorities.

In her book, 'Who invests wins -Leveraging Corporate Social Responsibility for CEOs, Investors and Policymakers to create ‘Triple Wins’, Dr Broomes provides insights into how strategic approaches to CSR can create wins for businesses, policymakers and communities. Current areas of work and interest address how CSR can be applied strategically to core business operations and investment negotiations, strengthening the private sector through meaningful participation of local businesses in supply chains of global corporations and enhancing Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) issues and frameworks for businesses.

In the UK, Veronica has designed and delivered training on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability, conducted sustainability and environmental audits of small and medium-sized businesses, prepared policy statements and action plans to reduce carbon emissions and in the process improve efficiencies in resource use. Dr. Broomes has also completed assignments funded by United Nations Development Programme, Commonwealth Secretariat, European Commission and African Development Bank. Country experience includes assignments in Suriname, Belize, Ghana, Malawi and Uganda.

Dr. Broomes holds a Masters of Law (LLM) degree from The Open University, PhD in Plant Science from University of Sheffield, BSc in Agricultural Science from University of Guyana and a post-graduate certificate in Environmental Impact Assessment from University of London.
