Michael Malavazos

Michael is currently the Director of technical regulation in the Department of Energy and Mining of South Australia. He is an experienced Chemical with over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry covering many aspects of the industry including reservoir engineering, tight gas, Enhanced Oil Recovery, drilling and well operations, high pressure pipelines and facility engineering with a strong focus on the discipline of process safety management.

Michael has developed the South Australian safety and environmental legislation for the oil and gas industry including Carbon Capture and Storage and the state's hydrogen safety and renewable energy legislation. 

Michael is an active member on a number of oil and gas and pipeline technical standard committees and he chairs the Australian mirror committee for the International Standards Organisation (ISO) technical committee on standards for Carbon Capture and Storage.

He is an adjunct lecturer in Process Safety and Risk Management in the School of Chemical Engineering at the Adelaide University. 

He is a Fellow Chartered Engineer with IChemE and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers.
