Edmund Smith

Edmund Smith is a Geologist & Sedimentologist by training, a graduate of Keele and Reading Universities, with nearly 30 years of experience of Subsurface Evaluation and Reservoir Characterisation. Having worked in a variety of consultancies and major services companies during his technical career. Currently working for AXIS Well Technologies Ltd, as their Wells, Reservoir and Studies Business Development Manager.  AXIS, a multi-disciplinary consultancy comprising a Subsurface & Wells, and a Well Operations Division, has extensive CCS and storage experience.  AXIS has undertaken preparation of CCS Licence applications, Store Performance reviews, Injectivity Assessments, Legacy Well Integrity reviews, and Regulatory support. In detail AXIS undertook for the UK Government, screening of UKCS Carbon Storage sites, identifying 579 potential sites and reviewing and selecting 20 of them for more detailed analysis ahead of the 1st UK CCS licencing round. Since 2020 the company has undertaken over 80 CCS studies, and client support projects, for Government Regulators, Operators, technology development consortia and private equity store developers. Studies have ranged from field/aquifer wide reviews for subsurface due diligence, storage capacity, geomechanics (including numerical modelling of cap rock integrity), geochemistry (including halite, hydrate and microbial risk mitigation) and well integrity risks (with cumulatively over 500 abandoned or legacy wells integrity being assessed.  To smaller-scale studies including well-bore centric CO2 injection modelling and well-site operation planning leading to offshore supervision of C02 injectivity test.
